Unbearable Loss

Courage of yearning
Unbearable loss
Life is turned over
All before...child’s play
Word to ear, sounds to mimic
The loss of you leaks out of me
The loss that changed the course of my life
Loss as growing up...loss as an initiation
Jet stream of darkness
Goodbyes are too sad
I detach or cry forever

  1. The style of this poetry is intensely personal, written in a first person narrative. Poetry is extremely subjective. Not every person enjoys the same sort of poetry, nor do they respond to a poem in the same way. Once a poem is written, it flies away like a balloon in the wind. The words are no longer the poet's property, for they have been given to the reader to own for him or herself. A poem about loss such as this can be read again and again, and each time the reader will come away with a different understanding. Perhaps the purpose and value of such powerful poetry comes in knowing that others in a similar situation can identify with the poet's observations about human anguish.
